Experience, Training & Qualifications

I began my counselling skills training in 2004 and went on to gain the necessary qualifications with Staffordshire University:

 MSc in Psychotherapeutic Counselling

 Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling

 Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

 Certificate in Counselling

 BSc Psychology and Literature Joint Honours 2:1

 EMDR Institute Training: Parts 1-3

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their ethical framework for good practice.  The framework can be found on the BACP website if you want to know more.   It is also a requirement as a BACP accredited member that I commit to continued professional development to build on my skills and training to maintain good practice.

When I began training to become a Counsellor there is a requirement to find placements and fulfil contact hours with clients as well as complete the necessary theoretical knowledge.

My counselling placements whilst in training and post qualification have included working for Victim Support (4 years), Stafford and District Bereavement and Loss Service (6 years), Dove Service (12 months) and Emerge working for adult survivors of childhood abuse (12 months).

I then moved into working in the primary sector with people referred to the service for depression and anxiety.  This is when I began my training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to add to my skills thus far.  I wanted to be able to help as many people as I could and realised that in order to do this I would have to further my knowledge in other approaches.

The training, knowledge and experience I gained through working in these sectors have been really valuable to me personally and in my work with vulnerable people.  I feel privileged to have chosen this profession and every client I have been fortunate to work with has given me so much in being able to share their own struggles in life with me.
